One Year of Generative AI

A year since OpenAI launched ChatGPT, some observations include: generative AI does not reduce busyness despite making tasks more efficient, because saved time becomes filled with additional tasks. Mental exertion for planning and ideation remains the same, even when the rate of production increases. Generative AI has highlighted the insignificance of certain work tasks. Moreover, the ‘uncanny valley’ effect is noticeable in AI-generated content. While jobs are adapting AI as a supportive tool, the impact of generative AI is neither as drastic as mass unemployment, nor as inconsequential, barring unreal expectations.
